Skill and Ability
A graduate specializing in the construction of modern bowed instruments (violin, viola, cello and bass) knows operative techniques and understands both the ancient and contemporary constructive processes for the manufacture of bowed instruments of high quality, based on the tradition of the great Cremonese violin makers. He also possesses the basic ability to plan, construct, test, modify and carry out the fundamentals of maintenance and repair of bowed instruments. Furthermore, he has a basic understanding necessary to construct a wide variety of stringed instruments.
Job Opportunities
A graduate is able to devote himself to professional activity as a violin maker. He may take on construction commissions in artisanal workshops as well as commissions of assistance, maintenance, and repair of all kinds of stringed instruments in stores. He is also able to construct various accessories and to offer his skills regarding the cutting and the preparation of special types of violin making wood, the qualities of technical violin making equipment, and the conservation of resins, bow hairs and other materials.
